Cadex C7 Battery Analyzer

August 23, 2022

Going back to the early Cadex days in the 1980s, we sold battery analyzers mainly to public safety, oil & gas, railways and airlines. In the 1990s we expanded into defense and healthcare before providing battery analyzers to point of sale at storefronts testing cellular phones batteries.

Figure 1: Since its introduction in 1995, we sold 50,000 C7 battery analyzers

The Cadex C7 with custom SnapLock battery adapters was an immediate success. Although priced above competitive battery analyzers on the market at that time, the C7 established a new standard that became our flagship. With proliferation of portable devices, we see a resurgent in battery analyzers.

Contributing to the success of the C7 are our SnapLock battery adapters. We add new models to our current list of about 4,000 to service batteries for medical and military devices, as well as two-way radios, power tools, drones, scanners and computing devices. Less common batteries connect by a universal adapter that can be configures on the fly with the menu-driven program.

SnapLock™ battery adapters are built for each unique battery model. Building a new adapter require sample models to program and test.Smart Cable services irregular batteries. Programming is by entering battery chemistry, voltage and Ah rating. The alligator clips are removable.RigidArm features spring-loaded arms that lock in position. A retractable floor holds the battery. Contacts are user-replaceable.

We supply the C7 to medical device manufacturers to fight COVID-19, as well as defense to keep batteries combat-ready. Increasingly, warehouses want to assure that their scanners last full shift by testing the battery fleet with battery analyzers. Other markets of interest are cinema and lighting for filming, drones, mining, oil & gas, as well as repair shops and rental places.

Table 3 Scanner manufacturers by size

Table 3 illustrates the scanner business serving warehouses supporting online buying. Zebra (formerly Symbol) says that the battery is a major cause for failure in these devices. Their service center in the USA tests up to 1,000 batteries a day, many on Cadex battery analyzers. Zebra is not alone in this growing market. Similar size companies also need to test batteries with battery analyzers and we suggest explore these markets in your territory.

Table 4: Portable ATM machine

Another market with increased demand is portable ATM machines used in restaurants and pont-of-sale. As with most portable computing devices, the state-of-charge (SoC) is clearly indicated, but as battery capacity fades, the stored energy will no longer stretche a full shift. The minutes of the remaining runtime get shorter. A battery analyzer verifies sufficient runtime to last a full shift without interruption. Batteries do fade and an organization needs to know when to replace an aging pack. When asking battery users the question: “At what capacity do your replace your batteries?” many reply in bewilderment: “I peg your pardon.”
